UK History Teachers Get AI Training in Groundbreaking Webinar Series
A new five-part webinar series will help history teachers in the UK navigate the challenges of AI in education. Led by Dr. Will Van Reyk of St Paul’s Girls’ School, the programme aims to support secondary educators in integrating generative AI into their lessons. The first session begins on 17 September, marking a shift in how history is taught in the digital age. The series, titled Teaching History in the Age of AI, will kick off with an introductory webinar led by Van Reyk. He will guide teachers on how to start using AI tools in their classrooms. While AI is often associated with STEM subjects, Van Reyk argues that history plays a crucial role in shaping responsible AI use.
Future sessions will explore ethics, student behaviour, and curriculum changes. Each live event will include practical examples and an open Q&A, allowing teachers to discuss real-world applications. The webinars will also be recorded for those who cannot attend in person.
The Historical Association has subsidised the pricing to make the series more accessible. Van Reyk has encouraged participation not just from history teachers but from educators across all subjects. The goal is to help teachers engage critically with AI, both in their own methods and in how students use the technology. The programme launches at a time when AI is transforming education. Teachers will gain tools to address ethical concerns and adapt their lessons for a changing classroom. The first session on 17 September will set the stage for a broader discussion on AI’s role in history teaching.
