Finland explores academic ties with Davao's Holy Cross College in landmark visit
Representatives from Finland recently visited Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) to explore academic partnerships. On April 16, 2026, the Embassy of Finland in the Philippines showed keen interest in working with the institution. The meeting came as HCDC celebrates its 75th year by expanding global connections and international projects. Ms. Veera Kaarela, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Manila, and Dr. Mika Tirroren, Coordinator of Team Finland Knowledge in Singapore, led the delegation. They introduced HCDC’s community to the Team Finland Knowledge (TFK) Programme, which supports educational and research collaborations.
Finland’s education system is widely recognised for its excellence. The country consistently ranks among the top in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). HCDC’s own efforts align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). The visit highlighted shared priorities in education and sustainability. Both sides discussed ways to strengthen ties, focusing on knowledge exchange and joint initiatives.
The meeting marked a step toward potential cooperation between Finland and HCDC. Future discussions will likely explore academic programmes, research projects, and sustainable development efforts. The visit also reinforced HCDC’s push for broader international engagement during its 75th anniversary.
