Kazakhstan's Robotics Teams Shine at FIRST World Championship in Houston

Houston recently hosted the FIRST World Championship, the largest global robotics competition, from April 29 to May 2. Teams from 66 countries gathered to showcase their engineering skills, with 342 groups competing in the FTC category alone. Among them, Kazakhstan sent 12 elite school teams, including two from Astana’s Republican Physics and Mathematics School (RFMS). The RFMS teams, FoxSlide and Fizmat Robotics, stood out at the event. FoxSlide advanced to the playoff stage, demonstrating strong technical ability. Meanwhile, Fizmat Robotics secured the prestigious Reach Award, the top honour in the Franklin Division.

The Reach Award celebrates teams that expand STEM education and inspire future engineers. Fizmat Robotics earned this recognition by engaging over 4 million people through structured educational programmes. Their efforts included developing a digital fundraising platform, which helped mobilise international resources for STEM initiatives. The success of both teams reflects the strong academic foundation of RFMS. The school has a history of producing winners in global competitions across mathematics, physics, and computer science. This year’s achievements in robotics further highlight its reputation for excellence in technical education.

Fizmat Robotics’ victory in the Reach Award underscores their impact on global engineering education. Their work has broadened access to STEM resources and inspired a new wave of young innovators. With Kazakhstan’s growing presence in international robotics, the country’s teams continue to make their mark on the world stage.
