Primary school transforms into a circus for a week of creativity and teamwork

Herpf Primary School is preparing for an unusual event this spring. From May 26 to 29, 2025, pupils will put on a circus performance with help from professionals. The project promises to bring together students, volunteers, and local sponsors for a week of creativity and teamwork. The event begins on Tuesday, May 26, during normal school hours and runs until Friday, May 29. The 1st East German Project Circus André Sperlich will set up its tent on the school’s sports field for the occasion. Children from the nearby Pusteblume kindergarten will also join in, working alongside the primary pupils.

Funding for the project has come from several sources. AMS Verwaltung GmbH Meiningen donated €5,000, while Paul Schnieke and his family provided additional support. Other local businesses—including Landbäckerei Koch, Backhaus Nahrstedt, BMW Matthes, Autohaus Brucker, Rhönmaler, and Agrargenossenschaft Herpf—have also contributed. Thanks to these donations, the participation fee for students has been fully covered, removing any cost for parents. The school is still looking for volunteers to help assemble and dismantle the circus tent. Organisers hope the community will step in to make the event run smoothly. This year’s school motto, *'Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls—everyone can do something, and together we can achieve anything,'* reflects the spirit behind the project.

The circus project will give children a chance to perform, collaborate, and learn new skills. With financial backing from local sponsors and hands-on support from volunteers, the event aims to be a highlight of the school year. Performances will take place on the sports field, open to the school and wider community.
