A Vietnamese collector's 300 Peugeot bicycles preserve history and passion
A lifelong passion for Peugeot bicycles has grown into one of Vietnam’s most remarkable private collections. Starting as a childhood dream in 1975, the collector now owns over 300 French-made models, each with its own story. His dedication extends beyond ownership—it’s about preserving history and sharing it with others.
The journey began in 2002 when he started seriously collecting Peugeot bicycles. Initially, he sourced them within Vietnam before expanding his search to Europe. Every bike in his collection was manufactured and assembled in France before 1992, with at least 80% of their original parts intact.
Over time, his passion attracted others who entrusted their own bicycles to his care. What started as a personal hobby soon became a way to honour the past. He sees each bicycle not just as an object but as a witness to history, carrying the memories of those who once rode them. His fascination with storytelling through objects doesn’t end with bicycles. He also collects over 300 antique sewing machines and around 600 clocks, including many Seiko wristwatches made before 1970. For him, these items aren’t about function—they’re about reflection. Clocks remind him to consider time itself, while bicycles and sewing machines connect him to the lives of those who used them. Beyond preservation, his collection has become a bridge for cultural exchange. By sharing these pieces, he helps promote Vietnamese heritage and values to a global audience. The connections he’s made through collecting have brought him gratitude, both for the people he’s met and the mental well-being the hobby has provided.
The collection now stands as more than just a display of rare items. It serves as a living archive of stories, linking past and present. Through his work, the collector continues to honour history while inspiring others to see the soul in everyday objects.
