New Exhibition Connection: Far and Near Celebrates Radio Day in Komi
A new exhibition celebrating Radio Day has opened at the National Gallery of the Republic of Komi. Titled Connection: Far and Near, the display explores the deep links between communication and art. Visitors gathered as Galina Shishkina, the gallery’s director, welcomed them with a personal reflection on her family’s role in the region’s communications history. The exhibition was made possible through a partnership with Rostelecom’s Komi branch. Sergei Lobanov, the branch’s director, spoke at the launch about the vital role of communication networks. He highlighted recent emergency repairs in Inta and Vorkuta, where nine technicians worked to restore service after disruptions.
On display are historical items that trace the evolution of communication technology. Vintage televisions, radio consoles, receivers, and loudspeakers offer a glimpse into past decades. Shishkina thanked Rostelecom for their collaboration, noting how the exhibition underscores a simple truth: communication has always been—and will always remain—a fundamental part of daily life. The project began as an initiative by Rostelecom’s local team. Their goal was to blend technological heritage with artistic expression, creating a space where visitors can see how these two worlds intersect.
The Connection: Far and Near exhibition is now open to the public. It brings together historical artifacts and artistic perspectives to mark Radio Day. Organisers hope the display will remind visitors of the enduring importance of staying connected.
