Kate Middleton resumes international duties with Italy trip after cancer recovery

Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, will travel to Italy next week for her first official overseas trip since recovering from cancer. The two-day visit marks her return to international duties after a long break for treatment. She will focus on early childhood education during the trip. In March 2024, Middleton revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment. She later announced in January 2025 that she was in remission. Since then, she has gradually resumed her royal duties and made several public appearances.

Her trip to Reggio Emilia, Italy, will be her first international visit since 2022. She will travel alongside representatives from the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which she launched in 2021. The foundation works to highlight how early childhood experiences shape people’s lives. While in Italy, Middleton will meet with children, parents, and local educators. She will learn about the Reggio Emilia Approach, an educational method that focuses on each child’s individual way of thinking and learning.

The visit signals Middleton’s return to full public life after her health struggles. She will continue her work in early childhood development through the Royal Foundation. The trip also marks her first major international engagement since her cancer diagnosis.
