Young artists shine in Magadan's Fishermen of the Sea of Okhotsk contest
Our website, April 24 – The Magadan Association of Fishery Enterprises and the Pacific Fishery Company have begun awarding participants in the annual children's art contest "Fishermen of the Sea of Okhotsk." The jury announced the results of the creative competition among schoolchildren last week.
The first to honor the young artists was Russian Cultural Studies School No. 2. Piotr Golubovsky, Development Director of Tikhrybkom LLC and a deputy of the Magadan Regional Duma, presented diplomas, sweet gifts to all participants, and cash prizes to the authors of the best works.
Additionally, every participant received a souvenir magnet featuring the winning drawing.
"This year's contest may not have been the largest in terms of the number of city schools submitting entries—only four took part. But we were struck by the quality of the artwork: the depth and originality of the creative vision, the meticulous execution, and, most importantly, the children's solid understanding of what Kolyma fishing is all about—winter, summer, recreational, and industrial. They know it's hard work, but also the joy of luck smiling upon you when you return home with a good catch. For us, this is crucial: it means the contest's goal—to promote fishing professions—has been achieved," Golubovsky noted.
For the students, "Fishermen of the Sea of Okhotsk" is also an excellent opportunity to hone their artistic skills.
"We love this contest!" says Elena Kopkova, an art teacher at School No. 2. "In fifteen years, we haven't missed a single one! The children enjoy brainstorming new ideas for their work, thinking through compositions, discussing details, and learning something new along the way."
This year, two students tied for first place at the school: Irina Kasimova with her piece "The Haul" and Ruslan Ignashin with "Nagaeva Bay." Polina Radvizil took second place ("A Little Fish Caught"), while Diana Molodykh placed third ("Fishing").
Winners from other schools included:
School No. 7: - 2nd place – Alena Gorelova ("Fish on the Hook") - 3rd place – Kirill Knyazev ("Fishermen at Work")
School No. 21: - 1st place – Anton Kotov ("A Fisherman's Life") - 2nd place – Viktoria Volosienko ("Evening Fishing") - 3rd place – Daria Kozhevurova ("Winter Fishing") and Artemiy Gavrilov ("A Bountiful Catch")
Gymnasium No. 13: - 1st place – Darina Kravchenko ("At the Ice's Edge—With a Big Catch") - 2nd place – Ulyana Ogneva ("Evening at Sea") - 3rd place – Raisa Nikitina ("Evening Fishing on the Sea of Okhotsk") and Dmitry Golban ("Beloved Smelt")
Mikhail Kotov, President of the Magadan Association of Fishery Enterprises, expressed gratitude to all contestants for their participation, effort, imagination, and keen observation.
"In our restless world, children's creativity is that bright, kind, and genuine spark that gives us adults hope for a better future. For that, we are truly grateful to the kids. Thank you—and here's to many more creative achievements!" — Mikhail Kotov.
