Yakutsk family left homeless after court declares their fire-damaged house uninhabitable
A family in Yakutsk is facing urgent relocation after their home was declared uninhabitable by the Supreme Court of Yakutia. The Zinovieva family, including a visually impaired mother and several children, now awaits a solution from local authorities as their wooden house remains unsafe for living. The Zinovieva family previously resided in a partially renovated wooden house at 5 Richard Sorge Street in Yakutsk. The property had suffered two fires, leaving it in a dangerous condition. On March 17, 2025, the Supreme Court of Yakutia officially ruled the house uninhabitable and ordered the family’s relocation within three months.
The family had originally purchased the house using two maternal capital certificates. While they own a plot of land on the 16th kilometre of the Vilyuy Highway, it lacks basic infrastructure—no roads, electricity, or running water. Nearby plots are being sold for between 650,000 and 800,000 rubles, but these also lack essential services. The Yakutsk Prosecutor’s Office had earlier filed an administrative claim in court regarding the unsafe conditions of the house. Despite the ruling, no concrete relocation plan has been provided for the family. The editorial board of Yakutia.Info has now called on the Housing Relations Department of Yakutsk’s city administration to intervene and resolve the housing crisis.
The Zinovieva family remains in limbo as the three-month relocation deadline approaches. Without a viable alternative, they continue to face uncertainty over their housing situation. Local authorities have yet to outline a clear solution for their immediate needs.
