TEQSA Consults on Key Guidance Notes to Enhance Higher Education Sector Efficiency

TEQSA has launched a consultation on three crucial Guidance Notes for the higher education sector. The draft notes cover Information for prospective and current students, Representation, and Information management. The regulator aims to enhance efficiency and self-assurance in the sector.

TEQSA has identified several issues in the draft Guidance Notes. In the Representation Guidance Note, false claims about migration outcomes and incorrect cost representations were flagged. Providers are reminded of their responsibilities under the National Code of Practice and the ESOS Act.

The Information for prospective and current students draft note highlights a lack of information about National Code requirements. TEQSA also raised concerns about agents or third-parties acting on behalf of providers, such as unclear contractual arrangements and insufficient monitoring of their conduct.

These 'identified issues' are indicative of risk and potential areas of regulatory focus. TEQSA encourages institutions to review the draft notes and provide feedback by 5:00 PM on Friday, 18 July, to [email protected].

TEQSA's consultation on the three Guidance Notes is an opportunity for providers to ensure they are meeting their obligations and avoiding potential pitfalls. The regulator will use the feedback to finalize the notes and support the sector's compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
