Scripps Oceanography Expands Graduate Study and Meeting Spaces Across Campus
Scripps Institution of Oceanography has opened multiple study and meeting spaces for graduate students. These include rooms in Eckart, Vaughan, Nierenberg, and Spiess Halls, as well as the Surfside lounge. Access rules and reservation methods vary depending on the location. Several Eckart Building rooms are available for immediate use. The quiet graduate study room 232 operates on a first-come, first-served basis but requires a valid SIO Graduate Student ID. Rooms 224, 226, and 228 can be self-reserved by writing a name on the window on the day of use. All second-floor Eckart spaces remain open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, without needing a booking.
Other rooms, such as the Eckart Fishbowl, Eckart SeaCave, and Vaughan Hall spaces, require formal reservations. Students can check availability via an online calendar and request a room by submitting the Room Reservations form or calling the Eckart reception desk at 858-534-3206. Some locations also need an entry code.
The Surfside student lounge is another option for small events, meetings, or study sessions. Reservations are made through an online form, and availability is visible on a separate calendar. Costs may apply depending on the size of the event. Graduate students now have multiple options for study and meeting spaces across the Scripps campus. Each location follows specific access and booking procedures, with some requiring reservations and others open for drop-in use. The online calendar and reception desk provide support for checking availability and securing a room.
