The image shows a group of people standing around a white cow, with a man holding a rope in his hand. In the background, there is a wall, a tree, and a clear blue sky. The scene is likely related to the news that the Nigerian government has launched a new cattle farm, as indicated by the logo in the bottom right corner of the image.

Nigeria's L-PRES project targets livestock growth in Bauchi, Gombe, and Plateau

A quarterly technical mission for the National Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) project recently took place in Bauchi, Gombe, and Plateau States. Led by Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar, the national coordinator, the visit aimed to strengthen livestock production and address key challenges in the region. The project operates under the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development with support from the World Bank. The mission brought together stakeholders from the three states to discuss technical hurdles affecting project delivery. During the meetings, participants identified specific issues and explored practical solutions to improve implementation. Alhaji Sanusi Abubakar praised Bauchi’s progress but encouraged the state’s L-PRES office to push for even better results.

Mr. Musa Adamu-One, the L-PRES Coordinator in Bauchi, described the engagement as well-timed and beneficial. He noted that the discussions would help refine the office’s approach and boost performance. The mission also highlighted broader priorities, including upgrades to water and pasture resources, modernising abattoirs, and expanding market access for livestock farmers. The L-PRES project, active in 20 Nigerian states, focuses on increasing productivity, commercialisation, and resilience across the livestock sector. By providing technical guidance and fostering collaboration, the initiative seeks to create lasting improvements in livestock management and economic opportunities for farmers.

The mission concluded with clear recommendations to tackle identified challenges and accelerate project goals. Stakeholders in Bauchi, Gombe, and Plateau States will now apply the technical solutions discussed to enhance livestock production. The outcomes are expected to contribute to the wider success of L-PRES in strengthening Nigeria’s livestock value chain.
