Russia's Kosygin State University Unveils New National Uniform for Olympiad Students

At a meeting of the Council under Russia's National Center for the Development and Promotion of a New Russian Style in Public Spaces, Kosygin State University (RSU) presented the first phase of a project to create a national uniform for school and university students participating in international academic and scientific Olympiads.

"This uniform for our Olympiad students is one of the Council's top priorities, and it has already moved from planning to practical implementation," said Elena Yampolskaya, the Council's chair and an advisor to the Russian president. "Young people who represent our country at international intellectual competitions must look dignified and feel our support. We see how brilliantly our students perform at these events, and their appearance takes on special significance for the nation and society."

The first part of the collection was introduced by Alice Lobanova, founder of the Neva brand and leader of the Council's design team. She explained that the project aims to refine tailoring techniques, test the fit of the garments on different body types, and finalize the style concept.

Specialists from Kosygin State University also contributed to the design, combining historical knowledge of Russian costume with modern technology to ensure ergonomic comfort.

"The initiative to develop a contemporary uniform for students representing Russia at international Olympiads is about creating a unified visual identity—one that reflects their high level of preparation, respect for tradition, and a modern approach to style," said Valery Belotserkovsky, rector of Kosygin State University.

The uniform collection includes both formal and casual wear, with the formal line serving as the foundation for Russia's national teams at international competitions. The sets feature parkas, coats, blazers, vests, trousers, skirts, and accessories.

Two primary colors have been approved: deep blue and noble gray. Blue, symbolizing intellect, professionalism, and respect, was chosen as the signature hue, while gray—paired with white accessories—evokes the strength and clarity of ice. Together, they convey resilience and sharpness of mind.

To embed national and cultural identity, the design integrates state and cultural symbols through two stylistic approaches: the colors of the Russian flag and authentic ornamental patterns. The blazers feature embroidery inspired by the floral motifs of Veliky Ustyug—a recognizable element of Russian folk art—blending modern tailoring with tradition.

The standout features of the design include embroidered patches and metal breast badges. Among the options for the team uniform are two logos: stylized rings symbolizing the unity of schoolchildren, students, and mentors, and a globe emphasizing the global scale of intellectual achievements.

The next phase of the project will be the development of an everyday uniform line, scheduled for May 2026.

At the conclusion of the meeting, members of the Council's Collegium highly praised the presented uniform collection, commending the developers for their meticulous work and thorough attention to every detail. The project will continue, incorporating the recommendations made during the discussion.
