Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Launches Classical Music Game on Roblox

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO) has launched Final Score: The Music Game on Roblox, turning classical music into an interactive experience. Aimed at young players aged 11 to 17, the game blends original compositions with modern gaming to attract a new audience to orchestral music. The project was developed in partnership with Accenture Song, which used generative AI tools like Copilot 365, Midjourney, and custom ChatGPT models. These technologies helped streamline game design and project coordination. Over 50 young people also provided feedback during development to shape the final product.

All in-game soundscapes feature original music performed by the RCO, including bespoke sound effects. Since its release, the game has achieved a 90% rating and drawn over 200,000 visits on Roblox. The ELJA Foundation, which co-initiated and funded the project, supports music education as a tool for youth development. Their involvement aligns with the World Health Organization’s endorsement of music-based interventions for improving public health and psychosocial wellbeing. Looking ahead, the RCO plans to perform the game’s music live on stage and release the soundtrack on Spotify. The orchestra hopes this initiative will inspire the next generation of concert-goers while preserving classical traditions.

The success of Final Score highlights the potential of blending classical music with digital entertainment. With strong engagement numbers and plans for live performances, the RCO’s project demonstrates how interactive experiences can introduce young audiences to orchestral music.
