CUHK rises to 32nd in QS World University Rankings 2026 with record research impact
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has climbed to 32nd place in the QS World University Rankings 2026. The latest results also highlight its strengths across multiple disciplines, with 10 subjects ranked first in Hong Kong and 21 in the global top 50. CUHK’s academic excellence extends beyond rankings. The university boasts 47 scholars among the world’s top 100 in their fields, including Vice-Chancellor Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, who ranks in the global top 10. Additionally, 431 CUHK academics were listed among the top 2% of scientists worldwide by Stanford University.
The institution’s research impact is further recognised by Clarivate Analytics, which named 17 CUHK researchers to its Highly Cited Researchers 2025 list. Among its standout departments, the Nethersole School of Nursing holds the top spot in Hong Kong and Asia, as well as sixth globally. The Department of Geography and Resource Management also ranks fourth in Asia and 21st worldwide. Students at CUHK have praised its research environment. Arati Poudel, a Nepali PhD candidate, highlighted the university’s advanced facilities, supportive faculty, and strong professional development programmes. Pham Nhat Vi Do, a Vietnamese PhD student in Nursing, credited CUHK’s resources and mentorship for sharpening her research skills, critical thinking, and leadership. Her work on colorectal cancer survivorship uses innovative technology, making her the first Vietnamese researcher to apply this method.
CUHK’s rise in global rankings reflects its growing influence in research and education. With top-tier departments, highly cited scholars, and a strong international student community, the university continues to strengthen its position as a leading academic institution. The latest achievements also underscore its commitment to fostering cutting-edge research and professional growth.
