Public Schools Shift to Three-Term Calendar for 2026–2027 Academic Year
Public schools across the country will adopt a new three-term calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year. The changes aim to extend teaching time and improve learning opportunities. Classes will begin on June 8 The updated school year will feature three distinct terms. Term one spans 69 days, with 55 dedicated to instruction. Term two follows with 65 days, including 56 class days, while term three covers 67 days, with 57 days of teaching.
In total, students will attend 201 class days. The extra time allows for more structured learning and flexibility. If disasters disrupt normal operations, schools can switch to alternative learning methods. To maintain continuity, activities outside regular class hours will also support education. The new system applies to all public schools nationwide.
The 2026-2027 school year will run on a three-term basis, starting in early June. The extended schedule provides more instructional days and adaptable learning options. Schools are preparing to implement the changes before the next academic year begins.
