Osnabrück’s Three-Faiths School Defies Middle East Tensions with Harmony

A Three-Faiths School in Osnabrück has maintained a peaceful environment despite broader tensions linked to the Middle East conflict. The institution, which educates children from Jewish, Christian, and Muslim backgrounds, has reported no incidents of conflict following the Hamas attack on Israel. Teachers and staff have instead focused on fostering respect and religious identity among pupils.

Vyacheslav Dobrovych, a teacher at the school, emphasised that children secure in their own faith are more likely to respect others. He does not support a blended interfaith approach, preferring instead to help Jewish families experience their traditions authentically. The school provides kosher meals and ensures each child’s religious needs are met.

Before the recent escalation, teachers held discussions to prevent external conflicts from affecting school life. Dobrovych avoided addressing the Middle East situation directly in class, concentrating on planned lessons and activities. He noted that any potential disputes among pupils would likely stem from influences at home rather than the school itself. Parents who choose the Three-Faiths School do so knowing their children will grow up in a diverse setting. The institution aims to strengthen each child’s religious identity while teaching acceptance of others. A separate project in Hannover, addressing Middle East tensions in German schools, was the only related initiative found—but it is unrelated to Osnabrück’s campus.

The Osnabrück school’s approach has kept its environment stable, with no reported conflicts tied to the Middle East. Teachers continue to prioritise religious education and mutual respect. For now, the focus remains on immersive learning and maintaining a pluralistic atmosphere.
