Hünfeld's summer brings puppet shows, music and youth workshops to life
Holiday programs for children and teens remain highly sought-after in 2026. As Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok reports from municipal council discussions on the findings of the Commission for Children and Youth Affairs, the first holiday activity week, summer camp, and youth trip were fully booked within a short time.
Spaces are still available for the second holiday activity week. The program for children aged six to ten runs from Monday to Friday, July 13–17, daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be held at the youth center.
The participation fee is €80 per child, including lunch and excursions. Registrations are being accepted at www.pretix.de/huenfeld.
This summer, the "Fairy-Tale and Colorful" series will once again bring children's events to Hünfeld. On Friday, June 12, at 3 p.m., Hoffmann's Puppet Theater from Schlitz will perform The Enchanted Princess in the town hall's assembly rooms.
On Friday, July 10, at 3 p.m., children's singer-songwriter Ferri and his ensemble will take the stage at the town hall, followed by a performance of The Frog Princess by Theater Rotes Zebra on Friday, August 14, at 3 p.m.
After primary schools were invited to a theater production by the Wella Culture Foundation last year, this year's children's theater will be decentralized, with the "Kistenhausen" Marionette Theater from Flieden performing at Hünfeld's daycare centers. The first shows have already taken place, with a total of 16 performances planned.
The Commission has also focused on the "Future Workshop" format, which gives young people the opportunity to engage directly in dialogue with Mayor Benjamin Tschesnok and City Councilor Karin Grosch, who chairs the commission.
"Over the past years, many ideas have emerged from these discussions, some of which have already been implemented," says Tschesnok.
To reach even more children and teens, the Future Workshop concept was further developed in collaboration with Simon Heil of the Youth and Family Center and integrated into the curriculum at Jahn School, Wigbert School, and Konrad Zuse School.
In February, three events were held with student council representatives, class spokespeople, and teachers. The mayor notes that the students prepared thoroughly for the discussions and announces that the results will be incorporated into the latest update of Hünfeld's city vision as part of its public participation process.
