Celebrations in Bavaria's Rhön Region!

The Rhön Biosphere Reserve Visitor Center "Haus der Langen Rhön" is marking a special milestone—its 25th anniversary—and invites the public to a festive celebration on May 1 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The event will highlight a retrospective of the center's many special exhibitions over the years, which have showcased local artists, regional history, and diverse themes exploring the nature and culture of the Rhön.

Sonja Rahm, district administrator and chair of the Naturpark und Biosphärenreservat Bayerische Rhön association, will open the ceremony with a welcoming address.

Musician Andreas Leffler will provide a festive soundtrack for the afternoon, while guests are invited to enjoy coffee and cake in a relaxed atmosphere to round off the day.

For a quarter of a century, the "Haus der Langen Rhön" has served as the central hub for information and education within the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve. Its engaging permanent exhibition, spread across two floors, offers vivid insights into the formation of the Rhön landscape, its settlement history, and current sustainable development projects.

Interactive stations, a media room with films, and a children's rally featuring the Rhön sheep "Elsbeth" make the visit an experience for all ages. The center also offers guided tours for groups and school classes, personalized consultations, and a regional products section showcasing items under the Dachmarke Rhön brand. A diverse program of events further enhances its profile.

The building's history stretches back even further: In 1986, Oberelsbach opened Bavaria's first nature conservation information center, initiated by the local municipality and the Wildbiologische Gesellschaft München. This laid the foundation for today's "Haus der Langen Rhön".

The anniversary not only celebrates this significant milestone but also underscores the center's vital role in environmental education, regional identity, and sustainable development in the Rhön.
