Magzhan Zhumabayev families struggle with healthcare, roads and school closures
Lack of Specialized Medical Care Becomes Chronic Issue in Magzhan Zhumabayev District
The absence of a pediatric neurosurgeon in the Magzhan Zhumabayev district has turned access to specialized medical care into a systemic problem, forcing families to travel regularly to the capital for consultations.
The issue was openly discussed at a meeting between a district maslikhat (local council) deputy and staff from the local hospital. Medical workers spoke not only as professionals but as residents who face these challenges firsthand.
One of the most pressing concerns was the lack of a pediatric neurosurgeon. A polyclinic employee explained that her child requires constant monitoring by a specialist, yet such care is unavailable locally. Every consultation means a trip to Astana to visit the National Neurosurgery Center, where examinations and appointments are provided on a paid basis.
Meeting participants noted that such cases are far from isolated. The problem has been raised at various levels, but no solution has been found so far.
"The neurosurgeon issue is indeed complex, but it cannot be postponed," emphasized Aizada Rakhmetova, a district maslikhat deputy from the Amanat party. "We will once again appeal to the ministry because these cases should not remain private struggles."
The meeting also addressed other issues affecting residents' quality of life, including the poor condition of the access road to the district polyclinic—a factor directly impacting the speed of emergency medical response.
Social concerns were also raised. One employee, who had relocated from southern Kazakhstan, expressed alarm over the potential closure of a school in the village of Zastar. The deputy acknowledged that the issue had been raised before, stressing the need to keep the school open at least during a transitional period to maintain student enrollment.
Residents also highlighted the lack of safe pedestrian walkways along roads in the town of Bulayevo.
