GCU Honors Students Join Nobel-Linked Peace Leadership Program
Two students from GCU Ingram Honors College have been chosen for a prestigious leadership programme. Daria Shlapak and Jozy Kairu will join the Partners in Peace cohort, a joint initiative by the National Collegiate Honors Council and the Nobel Peace Center. They are the first from their university to take part in this opportunity. The Partners in Peace programme will run as a virtual course through Oslo New University College in autumn 2026. A total of 25 students from across the US were selected based on their commitment to leadership growth and civic involvement. Shlapak, a junior in business management with a communications minor, also serves as director of events for GCU’s Multicultural Office.
The course will explore leadership through the work of Nobel Peace Prize winners, delivered in weekly online sessions. Dr. Henrik Syse, a former vice chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee and professor at Oslo New University College, will lead the cohort. Participants will also attend the 2026 NCHC Conference in New Orleans in November.
The programme will wrap up with a visit to Oslo in December, coinciding with the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. Shlapak and Kairu earned their places through their focus on personal leadership and community engagement. Their participation marks a first for GCU in this international programme. The experience will include both virtual learning and a trip to Norway during the Nobel Peace Prize events.
