Decades of Friendship and Books: Two Local Clubs Hit Milestones

Two long-running book clubs in the area are marking significant milestones this year. The Readers’ Circle, founded in 1988, has adapted over decades, while Becky’s Book Club celebrates its 25th anniversary. Both groups have provided members with friendship and a shared love of reading. Katie Shiban started her book club at the age of 30, and this summer it will turn 35. Over the years, the Readers’ Circle has seen members come and go, but new faces have always filled the gaps. When the pandemic hit, the group moved its meetings online, keeping discussions alive through Zoom.

Becky’s Book Club has thrived for a quarter of a century. Members have enjoyed lively debates over countless books, often paired with memorable dinners. For Shiban, her club has been more than just about reading—it has offered support through life’s ups and downs. These clubs have endured through changing times, bringing people together through literature. The Readers’ Circle continues to evolve, while Becky’s Book Club remains a staple for its members. Both prove that a love of books can create lasting bonds.
