Milan's Garden of Light Pop-Up Fuses Putuo's Heritage with Artistic Flair

A pop-up event called Half Marathon Suzhou Creek · Garden of Light took place in Milan on April 25, 2026. The showcase highlighted Putuo District’s cultural heritage while blending it with Milan’s artistic style. Organisers transformed a local newsstand into four themed spaces for visitors to explore. The event turned a simple newsstand into an immersive experience. Four distinct zones—Light of Development, Light of Vitality, Light of Warmth, and Light of Craftsmanship—featured cultural products, interactive displays, and craft demonstrations. A VR film also introduced attendees to Putuo’s landmarks and lifestyle.

Inside, white magnolias and azaleas decorated the space, paired with stained-glass-inspired decals echoing Milan Cathedral’s design. The *Garden of Light* theme aimed to bridge Putuo’s traditions with Milan’s creative flair. A dedicated corner at the *Half Marathon Suzhou Creek Café & Cultural Creative Store* was set up to extend this cultural exchange beyond the event. Putuo’s participation aligns with broader efforts under China’s Yangtze River Delta integration strategy. The district is also working on a *15-minute community living circle* to make daily services more accessible. Plans include child-friendly and senior-friendly urban upgrades, alongside digital improvements to trade supply chains and ecological-to-industrial space conversions.

The Milan event reinforced Putuo’s push for cultural and economic collaboration. The district continues to develop as a livable, business-friendly area through major projects and everyday enhancements. Efforts like the Garden of Light initiative reflect its focus on blending tradition with modern urban growth.
