Viersen Unites for 'Unity in Diversity' with Art, Talks and Cultural Exchange

Viersen will celebrate its annual 'Unity in Diversity' action day on Thursday, May 21. The event coincides with UNESCO’s World Day for Cultural Diversity and features a wide range of activities for all ages. Local organisations, city departments, and residents will come together to promote inclusion and cultural exchange across the city. The day’s programme kicks off with creative and educational events. At Rathausmarkt, the mobile play bus will offer hands-on activities for children and teens. Nearby, the Equal Opportunities Office will host a 'Talk and Walk' session focused on gender equality.

Art lovers can head to the Städtische Galerie im Park for 'Freedom in Art – Art in Freedom.' The event includes an art breakfast, guided tours, and light refreshments. Later in the evening, the Festhalle will stage *Mother Otherwise – A Witch’s Monologue*, a theatrical performance starting at 7 PM with tickets priced at €10. The city’s Integration Team will contribute with the 'Seeds of Diversity' initiative, while guided tours of the Jewish cemetery and sites of Jewish life in Viersen will highlight the importance of remembrance. Residents are also invited to share recipes for the digital cookbook *Recipes from Home*. At City Hall, the Digitalization Team will run a 'Digital Living Room' session, offering practical guidance on online services and digital applications. Young participants from the 'Young & Democratic' creative competition will be recognised by Mayor Christoph Hopp during the day. The nationwide event is coordinated by the Cultural Integration Initiative, bringing together civil society groups, religious communities, media, and government bodies.

The action day brings together cultural, educational, and civic activities across Viersen. From art exhibitions and theatre to digital workshops and remembrance tours, the programme reflects the city’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. Organisers encourage all residents to take part in the events on May 21.
