Victory Cup Honors Fallen Hero Dmitry Klyukvin Through Kudo Tournament

The Victory Cup tournament took place this week in honour of Dmitry Klyukvin, a decorated serviceman from the Nizhny Novgorod region. The event brought together elite athletes from across Russia and neighbouring republics for a series of intense Kudo competitions. Beyond sport, the tournament served as a tribute to those who defend the country, with Klyukvin’s legacy inspiring young fighters. Before the bouts began, an exhibition of weapons and combat gear was displayed outside the Sports Palace. Guests also had access to a field kitchen set up near the venue.

The opening ceremony included speeches from officials and a performance by a song and dance ensemble. Athletes then recited the traditional Kudo fighter’s oath in unison, marking the start of the competition.

The tournament followed a structured format, with preliminary bouts leading into semifinals and third-place matches. Winners and medalists received cups, medals, and diplomas during the closing awards.

Dmitry Klyukvin, the event’s namesake, was a trainee of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Branch of the Russian Kudo Federation. He was killed in action in 2023 and remains the only serviceman from the region to have earned four Orders of Courage. His bravery continues to motivate young athletes in the sport. The Victory Cup closed with a celebration of both athletic skill and military honour. Participants left with awards, while organisers reinforced the tournament’s role in remembering fallen defenders. The event will return next year, keeping Klyukvin’s memory and the spirit of service alive.
