Uschi Glas to Receive Prestigious Honor for Fighting Child Hunger in Schools
Actress and activist Uschi Glas will receive the 'LupoLeo Honor Award' in November 2026. The recognition highlights her decades of work in turning public influence into social change. Her charity, brotZeit e.V., has spent years tackling child hunger in German schools. Glas co-founded brotZeit e.V. with Dieter Hermann in 2009. The organisation focuses on providing free breakfasts to disadvantaged primary school children. Research shows one in five German children starts the school day without eating.
The breakfast program launched in the BRAWO region in 2016. It now runs in 14 schools across Braunschweig, Gifhorn, Peine, Salzgitter, and Wolfsburg. On average, 700 children receive meals each day. Since its start, the initiative has served over 700,000 breakfasts.
The program aims to do more than feed hungry pupils. It seeks to improve concentration in class and create fairer learning opportunities. Schools report better focus and energy levels among children who take part. The award ceremony will take place in late 2026. Glas’s work through brotZeit e.V. continues to address food poverty in education. The charity’s efforts provide daily support to hundreds of children across Lower Saxony.
