Russia's New Campaign Unites Youth Through Vocational Training and Shared Skills
Our website, March 24 – Russia's Ministry of Education, together with the Institute for the Development of Vocational Education, has launched the nationwide campaign "VET: The Power of Unity!" The initiative coincides with the Year of National Unity declared by Russian President Vladimir Putin and will run until December. Its goal is to highlight the vital role of the vocational education and training (VET) system in strengthening Russia's shared civic identity and the unity of its peoples, according to the press service of the Magadan Region's Education Ministry.
"Today, nearly four million young people study in colleges and technical schools. The VET system not only provides in-demand professional skills but also serves as a powerful social institution that brings together youth from different regions, cultures, and ethnic backgrounds, fostering worthy citizens of our great country. VET is a space of opportunity where students learn teamwork and understand their responsibility for Russia's future. Through real-world projects, academic and volunteer initiatives, and mentorship, we cultivate a conscious attitude toward their professions and their role in the nation's development," said Russian Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov.
Students, educators, vocational trainers, administrators, alumni, and employees—everyone shaping the modern VET landscape across Russia's regions—are invited to take part in the campaign.
Participants are encouraged to share posts on their social media pages featuring photos or short videos on one of the following themes:
"Culture and Crafts in Professions" – content showcasing regional traditions, folk crafts, and cultural practices reflected in VET professions and passed down from mentors to students, including rare trades such as chum (traditional dwelling) keepers, reindeer herder-mechanics, and others;
"Regional Professional Competencies" – stories about the most critical training programs in local colleges and technical schools and their contribution to the country's overall development;
#VETPowerOfUnity – accounts of how shared studies, project work, and volunteer activities in colleges unite people of different nationalities and cultures to achieve common goals.
Posts should include the hashtags #VETPowerOfUnity, #MinistryOfEducation, and #IRPO.
"Vocational education is about honesty—it's real unity without slogans. Nothing brings people together like a shared purpose. Young people of different nationalities and cultures work side by side—gaining hands-on experience in industry, mastering high-tech professions, and competing in skills championships. Yet their unique traditions don't fade away; they become part of a collective success. As Russia marks the Year of National Unity, now is the time to make this known across the country. I invite everyone to join our campaign and showcase the unifying power of vocational education!" said Sergei Kozhevnikov, Rector of the Institute for the Development of Vocational Education (IRPO).
The IRPO implements key projects in the vocational education system on behalf of Russia's Ministry of Education.
