Russia Proposes 'Quiet Hour' to Ease Stress for Young Schoolchildren
The Russian Public Chamber has proposed introducing a 'quiet hour' for primary school students - a period of rest without noisy games and gadgets. The authors of the initiative believe that such a break will help reduce emotional and mental stress, facilitate the adaptation of first-graders to school life and allow children to better cope with the academic load during the day.
Special attention is planned to be given to extended day groups, where children stay after lessons for several hours. At the same time, the 'quiet hour' is intended to be optional and flexible: schools and educators can implement it at their discretion, taking into account the needs and condition of specific students. It is assumed that the rest may take the form of quiet reading, relaxing activities or even a short daytime sleep - as is practiced in kindergartens.
The Public Chamber emphasizes that the initiative is of a recommendatory nature and will not become a rigid obligation for schools. It is expected that the proposal will be sent to the Ministry of Education for further discussion with teachers and parents.
