A Powerful Statement for Community Engagement
New Adventure Harbor Playground Opens at Solingen Daycare Center
Since 2007, Stadt-Sparkasse Solingen has been making an impressive commitment to social responsibility in the region through its trainee construction project. This year's results once again demonstrate what young people can achieve when they work together with dedication, creativity, and team spirit.
The new play area will offer children diverse opportunities for movement and exploration, providing a valuable counterbalance to the urban environment.
Grand Opening with a Colorful Program
The inauguration of the "Adventure Harbor" was accompanied by a lively and varied program. After welcoming remarks from CEO Sebastian Greif and expressions of gratitude to supporting partners—including ALEA GmbH, Sichere Spielplätze, Staba-Schermuly, and the City of Solingen—Mayor Lukas Schrumpf and daycare director Andrea Holzschneider also addressed the guests.
The children's performances and a presentation by the trainees, who shared their experiences during the construction week, added to the joyous atmosphere.
The Symbolic Launch of "Adventure Harbor"
The emotional high point of the ceremony was the ceremonial ribbon-cutting. Immediately afterward, the children eagerly rushed onto their new playground, exploring the fresh play opportunities with curiosity and delight.
A moment that underscored just how valuable this project is for the facility and its families.
Learning for Life: The Trainee Construction Project
The trainee construction project is a fixed part of the training program at Stadt-Sparkasse Solingen. Over just five days, second-year apprentices—guided by experts from ALEA GmbH—plan and build playgrounds for nonprofit organizations.
Beyond honing practical skills, the project emphasizes teamwork, personal responsibility, and social commitment—values that are equally vital in professional life.
"This project demonstrates what happens when dedication, team spirit, and responsibility come together," emphasized Sebastian Greif. "Our trainees aren't just creating a place to play—they're building a space that enables children to grow, connect, and find joy."
More Space for Growth and Discovery
The Lucasstraße daycare center currently serves 117 children, including 34 under the age of three, and has been certified as a Family Center in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2019. With the new "Adventure Harbor," a space has been created that actively promotes children's motor and sensory development while fostering community, movement, and imagination.
The project vividly illustrates how collective engagement can generate lasting benefits for the youngest members of society.
