Nintendo's Mario Kart World redefines racing with open-world freedom on Switch 2
Nintendo has revealed Mario Kart World as the launch title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The game promises a fresh take on the classic racing series, blending open-world exploration with traditional kart racing. Priced at around 90 euros, it will also be available in a bundle with the new console for approximately 510 euros.
The latest instalment breaks from past games by offering an open world set across an entire fictional continent. Players can seamlessly race between connected tracks or explore freely in Free Roam mode. Hidden coins, photo spots, and drive-thru restaurants—where unlockable outfits can be earned by ordering from menus—add depth to the experience.
The game retains familiar modes like Grand Prix, Versus races, and Battle mode, while introducing new challenges. KO Tour and time trials return, alongside P-switches that trigger short missions to sharpen driving skills. Assistance features such as Smart Steering, Motion Control, and Auto Acceleration help newcomers get up to speed. New mechanics include the Power Jump, allowing players to vault over obstacles, grind on terrain, or perform wall jumps. The character roster mixes returning favourites like Mario, Peach, and Yoshi with first-time racers such as Gumba and Spike.
Mario Kart World arrives as the flagship title for the Nintendo Switch 2, priced at 90 euros standalone or 510 euros in a console bundle. Its open-world design and expanded gameplay options mark a significant shift for the franchise. The game is set to launch alongside the new hardware in the coming months.
