Missoula's Best Quiet Spots for Studying and Working in 2024
Studying is a skill that Hellgate students have been developing since the beginning of their high school career, but it certainly hits differently in a coffee shop or the library, rather than in the dark depths of one's bedroom. Today, I'll be covering a variety of lovely study spots around Missoula that will aid in preparation for exam season, and, in the process, lessen the anxiety you might be feeling.
Recommended Study Spots
- It's no surprise that the first place I would recommend is none other than Clyde Coffee. With a wide selection of drinks, including their delicious April specials, and yummy treats, Clyde is the perfect place to settle down and get some studying done. The salted honey tahini latte is a good choice, as it incorporates all of the flavors reminiscent of spring. Clyde opens at 6am and closes at 6pm on weekdays, which makes it work well with student schedules. Also, the cozy atmosphere of early mornings at Clyde makes it worth waking up before the sun. Clyde also has a location at the Missoula Public Library, but it closes at 4pm, making the shop closest to Hellgate the more convenient option.
- Speaking of the Missoula Public Library, it just so happens that the third floor boasts a quiet and comfortable study space. They also offer private study rooms, if you need a completely silent atmosphere to study in. You can study in the library even if you don't have a library card. It's an accessible option that differs from the hustle and bustle of Clyde. My favorite place in the library to study is in the lifelong learning classroom, which is to the left of the elevators. The huge windows offer natural lighting that can make studying less draining.
- I also highly recommend studying at Break Espresso. It has a moody ambience that personally really appeals to me. A big plus is that it closes at 10pm. If you have the option to stay up later, Break works well for nighttime studying. It has the best mango smoothies and a lovely selection of baked goods and pastries. Break has large wooden tables, which is great for someone who needs a lot of space while studying. The only downside is that the WiFi registers as a suspicious network on school computers. Other than that, though, Break is by far one of my favorite coffee shops and study spots around Missoula (and in walking distance of Hellgate).
- A bit out of the way, but I like to go to Funk It when I'm doing work on paper, as this whimsical little coffee shop doesn't offer WiFi. It's good for doing practice tests, or sitting and reading by the window when you need a break from work. It has really delicious sandwiches and drinks in cute, mismatched mugs. Funk It has a thrift store section. The selection isn't the best, but if you're one of those magical people who can find aesthetic value in every item of clothing, it's worth checking out. Lastly, the baristas are almost as sweet as their mochas, which is reason enough to visit Funk It.
Wherever you are in your academic journey, coffee shops are the perfect places to invest time into what you need to get done. Especially when studying, the atmosphere is endlessly important, and I hope that some of these options work well for you. Best of luck on all of your exams, and happy studying!
