Kindergarten's Chicken Project Hatches Joy with New Feathery Friends

Klings Kindergarten has launched a chicken project with help from the Small Animal Breeders’ Association. The idea began when Jürgen Möller connected the two groups, leading to a donation of four birds in February. Now, the kindergarten is preparing for a grand opening of its new chicken coop next month. The project took off on February 17, 2023, when Jürgen Möller gifted three hens and a rooster to the kindergarten. The children quickly named them Emma, Gisela, Trude, and Siegfried. These chickens belong to the Bavarian Landzwerg breed, known for its small size and friendly nature.

Funding for the coop and care supplies came from an event hosted by the association. The kindergarten children performed, helping to raise the necessary money. Over time, the birds grew tame and now eat comfortably from the children’s hands.

Recently, the hens began brooding, with chicks expected to hatch in about two weeks. To celebrate the project’s success, a grand opening will take place on June 13, 2023, at 2:30 PM. The event will be held at the community centre (DGH) and the garden of Knirpsenland. The chicken coop will officially open next month, marking the completion of the kindergarten’s project. The children will continue caring for the birds, now including the soon-to-arrive chicks. The initiative has created a hands-on learning experience for the young participants.
