Kazakhstani Student Wins Gold at 60th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad

Aren Tenizbayev, an 11th-grade student at the Bilim-Innovation Regional Boarding Lyceum for Gifted Children No. 9 in Kyzylorda—named after Seilbek Shaukhamanov—has won a gold medal at the 60th International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad in Moscow, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Education.

One of the world's most prestigious chemistry competitions, the International Mendeleev Chemistry Olympiad brought together nearly 200 high school students from 37 countries, including Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, North Macedonia, Israel, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Costa Rica, Thailand, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Cuba, Chad, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Brazil, Armenia, Tajikistan, Cameroon, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Botswana, Nigeria, Belarus, and China.

The Kazakh team secured one gold, four silver, and five bronze medals.

Silver medalists: - Ansar Zhakyslykov, 11th grade, Spectrum International School (Astana) - Aizere Zheniskhanova, 11th grade, Nazarbayev Intellectual School (natural sciences and mathematics, Ust-Kamenogorsk) - Mendigali Kaldybay, 11th grade, Spectrum International School (Astana) - Nurseit Seitkaziyev, 10th grade, Bilim-Innovation Regional Boarding Lyceum for Gifted Youth (Akmola Region)

Bronze medalists: - Daniil Poletaev, 11th grade, Lyceum No. 134 (Almaty) - Kali Abilmansur, Nazarbayev Intellectual School (physics and mathematics, Nur-Sultan) - Alidar Aitzhanov, 11th grade, Nazarbayev Intellectual School (natural sciences and mathematics, Karaganda) - Abzhan Ibrayimov, 10th grade, NURORDA International School-Lyceum (Astana) - Mansur Makhmutov, 12th grade, Miras International School (Almaty)

The team was coached by Eldana Bakyzhan, a PhD and senior lecturer at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, and Sarsenbay Aidoss, a second-year student at the Kazakh-German Institute of Sustainable Engineering.

Last year, Kazakhstan's 11-member team won seven silver and four bronze medals, the Ministry of Education noted.
