Global Korean language schools surge by 54% in just four years

The number of schools teaching Korean abroad has surged over the past four years. By the end of 2025, 2,777 schools across 47 countries offered Korean language classes. This marks a 54 percent increase since 2021, driven by rising global interest in the language. In 2021, only 1,806 schools provided Korean classes. The figure climbed steadily: 1,928 in 2022, 2,154 in 2023, and 2,526 in 2024. By 2025, the total reached 2,777, reflecting a 9.9 percent jump from the previous year alone.

The growth was particularly strong in Asia. Between 2024 and 2025, Uzbekistan added 68 new schools, Sri Lanka 43, Vietnam 37, and the Philippines 26. Student numbers also rose sharply, with enrolments increasing by 38 percent to 236,089 over the same period. Experts attribute the expansion to several factors. The global popularity of Korean pop culture, a rising desire to study in South Korea, and government funding for language programmes have all played a role.

The latest figures confirm Korean’s growing presence in international education. With 2,777 schools now teaching the language, demand continues to rise. The trend suggests further expansion as cultural and academic ties with South Korea strengthen.
