Geismar School's African Drumming Event Unites Kids Through Story and Rhythm

Geismar Primary School recently hosted a vibrant cultural event celebrating African traditions and stories. The highlight was a drumming workshop led by Markus Hoffmeister of TheoMobil e.V., which captivated children with tales of bravery and teamwork. The event also marked the first joint gathering between the school and St. Michael Kindergarten. The cultural project week focused on African values, culminating in an interactive drumming session. Hoffmeister shared the story of Sosu, a disabled African boy who saved his seaside village by crawling to a tower and beating a drum to warn of an approaching flood. The tale underscored themes of courage and the strength found in unexpected places.

Another story emphasized sharing and cooperation, teaching children how communities thrive when working together. The drumming workshop itself immersed pupils in Africa’s diverse landscapes, languages, and traditions. Headteacher Kathrin Rübsam thanked the organisers for their efforts in bringing the event to life. Alongside Michaela Nimmich, leader of St. Michael Kindergarten, she highlighted the success of this first-time collaboration between the two institutions.

The event left a lasting impression on the children, blending storytelling with hands-on learning. Hoffmeister’s drumming journey continues to inspire audiences across Germany, while Geismar Primary School’s project week reinforced the importance of cultural exchange. The partnership with St. Michael Kindergarten also opened doors for future joint activities.
