Darnell Sanders Honored on Midwest City High's Wall of Fame for Lifelong Impact

Midwest City High School honoured one of its own on 19 May 2025 by inducting Darnell Sanders into its Wall of Fame. The award recognises his achievements as a student-athlete, coach, and education leader. Sanders has spent over two decades shaping young lives through sports and school administration.

Sanders first made his mark as a student at Midwest City High School. He helped the Bombers secure state titles in football in 1994 and 1995, followed by a track championship in 1998. His athletic success set the stage for a long career in coaching and education.

He began coaching in 2000, working in football, baseball, and track. As an assistant coach at Carl Albert High School, he contributed to four state football championships under Gary Rose and Mike Corley in 2012, 2016, 2017, and 2018. Beyond coaching, he took on administrative roles in Oklahoma City Public Schools, serving as assistant principal, athletics administrator, and Principal Supervisor. In 2019, Sanders played a key role in launching the football programme at Classen SAS at Northeast while overseeing athletic activities. His leadership led to a promotion in July 2025, when he became Executive Director of Athletics and Physical Education for the OKCPS Athletic Department. Sanders has long believed that every student deserves a chance—not just to compete, but to be seen, to grow, and to succeed.

The Wall of Fame induction highlights Sanders’ lasting impact on his community. His work spans coaching, administration, and mentorship, all rooted in his early days as a champion at Midwest City High School. The honour reflects his commitment to excellence, integrity, and the development of young athletes.
