Santander and Coursera Launch Free Job Skills Training for 50,000 Adults
Santander has teamed up with Coursera to offer 50,000 adults free access to in-demand job skills training. The programme, called Curso Santander | Skills for Work, will run across 13 countries. No university degree or Santander account is required to apply. The initiative provides a year's access to over 80 courses through the Santander Open Academy platform. Topics cover artificial intelligence, leadership, and languages—skills highly valued by employers. Participants can complete as many courses as they like at their own pace and earn a certificate for each one.
Registration closes on 9 December. The bank has already invested over €2.4 billion in education, employability, and entrepreneurship, supporting 3.7 million people and businesses so far. Zac Rule, Coursera's Vice President for North America, noted that learners are keen to develop skills that match current job market needs. Ramon Rodriguez, Global Head of Santander Open Academy, added that continuous upskilling is now essential for career growth. A recent Santander report found that eight in ten participants feel the need to keep expanding their abilities. The *Skills for Work* course builds on Santander's broader commitment to lifelong learning. It follows earlier programmes like *Tomorrow's Skills*, which highlighted the growing demand for adaptable, future-ready expertise.
The 50,000 free places will be available until 9 December. Successful applicants gain access to courses designed to improve employability in fast-changing industries. The programme reflects Santander's ongoing push to bridge skills gaps through accessible, flexible training.
