Russia's Kuban Region Offers Free Bariatric Surgery Under State Insurance

Residents of Russia’s Kuban region can now access free bariatric surgery under mandatory health insurance. The announcement comes during the Nationwide Endocrine Disease Prevention Week in the area. Eligible patients aged 18 to 60 will benefit from the programme at no cost. The initiative allows those struggling with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and related health issues to undergo the procedure. Krasnodar Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1 will carry out the surgeries. This facility already performs around 22,000 advanced operations each year.

The scheme targets adults between 18 and 60 who meet medical criteria. Officials have timed the launch to align with the region’s ongoing Endocrine Disease Prevention Week. The move aims to improve access to treatment for weight-related conditions.

Patients in Kuban now have a fully funded option for managing severe obesity and diabetes. The surgery will be available at a major regional hospital with extensive surgical experience. The programme expands healthcare support for those with chronic metabolic disorders.
