The image shows a room filled with lots of books and furniture, including chairs, tables, stools, carpets on the floor, bookshelves filled with books, boards with text and pictures on the walls, lights on the ceiling, and glass windows. It appears to be a children's library, with a variety of activities and books to choose from.

Rhein-Kreis Neuss Reading Festival expands with storytelling for all ages this autumn

The Rhein-Kreis Neuss Reading Festival is set to expand across the entire district this autumn. Following its success in Grevenbroich, the event will now bring books and storytelling to schools, daycare centres, and public spaces. Organisers hope to foster a love of reading among children while offering activities for all ages. The festival will run on October 8 and 9, with schools and daycare centres hosting special reading sessions. Municipalities will also hold public events, including two readings with sign language interpretation to ensure inclusion for all attendees.

Local authors Jörg Hilbert and Fritzi Bender will take part in the celebrations. Their involvement adds to the festival’s appeal, drawing both young readers and families.

A key feature of the event is the Family Day on October 10 at the Meerbusch City Library. Visitors can enjoy readings, creative workshops, and meet authors for book signings. The day aims to blend entertainment with a passion for literature.

To mark the occasion, a child’s artwork will become the official festival poster. An art competition, running from May to the end of June, will determine the winning design. The chosen poster will be displayed during Family Day and at the Alte Kosterhaus.

District Administrator Katharina Reinhold has taken on patronage of the festival. Her support underscores the event’s goal of becoming a sustainable annual tradition. The festival is backed by multiple partners and sponsors, with organisers actively seeking further collaborations to broaden the range of readings on offer. The Rhein-Kreis Neuss Reading Festival will bring together authors, artists, and families for a weekend of storytelling and creativity. With activities spread across the district, the event aims to make reading an engaging and accessible experience for children. Organisers plan to build on this year’s programme to ensure the festival’s future growth.
