Preply's one-on-one tutoring accelerates English fluency in record time
Over 12 weeks, 67 Spanish-speaking adults participated in a Preply learning program designed to improve their English language skills.
The researchers found that one in every three learners improved their Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) test scores by a full level and learners progressed up to three times faster than standard benchmarks.
Typically, progressing by one CEFR level would take 160-240 hours but many learners achieved this with 24-48 hours of tutoring over the 12 week study period.
After completing more than 24 Preply lessons, 94 percent of learners said they felt more fluent, and 97 percent said they felt confident speaking English.
Almost all (96 percent) of the learners said that learning English with a real person was key to their success.
"This study confirms what we've always believed. Real learning with real tutors accelerates real progress," comments Preply CEO and Co-founder Kirill Bigai. "We're proud to support learners in reaching their personal and professional goals with personalized language learning that's proven to unlock life-changing opportunities."
"The results of our study with Preply suggest that with the right support, learners can expedite their English language journey," adds Katie Boody Adorno, CEO of Leanlab. "The findings underscore the value of real conversations and personalized guidance toward measurable progress."
In August, Preply launched three new AI-powered tools despite plans to take an "Anti-Duolingo" approach. Preply said it plans to pair its new AI tools with human interaction, offering benefits for both tutors and students.
