Namma Yatri's Namma Transit Aims to Fix Bengaluru's Traffic Chaos by 2030
Bengaluru’s mobility challenges are getting a fresh approach from Namma Yatri. The company has launched Namma Transit, a new feature that ties together metro services, autorickshaws, and cabs for smoother travel. Alongside this, they’ve released a policy report, Made for BLR: Namma Mobility Blueprint 2030, outlining bold plans to transform the city’s transport system by the end of the decade. The Namma Transit feature is now being tested with a small group of users. Within a week, it will open to everyone across Bengaluru. Built on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the tool will also pull live data from BMTC buses in the near future. It acts as a personal transit assistant, giving real-time updates on metro timings and helping users switch between different transport modes without hassle.
The move comes as Bengaluru’s traffic woes deepen. Average commute times have jumped by 16% in the past year, with a 19-kilometre trip now taking around 63 minutes. Namma Yatri’s policy report responds to these issues by setting clear targets: boosting public transport use to 70%, cutting commute times, and slashing transport emissions by half by 2030. Shan MS, co-founder and COO of Namma Yatri, stressed that the aim isn’t to rival public transport but to reduce reliance on private vehicles. One of the report’s key suggestions is introducing formal rules for ride batching and pooling. This could help streamline shared trips and ease congestion on the city’s roads.
The launch of Namma Transit marks a step toward better-connected travel in Bengaluru. If fully adopted, the feature and the proposed policy changes could reshape how people move around the city. The focus remains on reducing delays, cutting emissions, and making public transport the go-to option for most commuters.
