Minerva's 'Cameras On' Track Transforms Online Learning Engagement

Minerva Virtual Academy has launched an opt-in 'Cameras On Classes' track to boost interaction in online learning. The initiative, proposed by Principal Suzanne Lindley, aims to tackle student anxiety while encouraging more engagement. Meanwhile, the ETIH Innovation Awards 2026 has opened entries to organisations worldwide, celebrating advancements in education technology. The idea for the new track had been on Hugh Viney's mind for years. As founder and CEO of Minerva Virtual Academy, he wanted to address concerns about isolation in virtual classrooms. Lindley's suggestion of an opt-in model allowed students to choose whether to keep cameras on, reducing pressure while fostering connection.

Since its introduction, the academy has seen improvements in student participation and teacher feedback. The approach also aligns with a broader goal: shifting the culture of online education toward greater visibility and engagement. Separately, the ETIH Innovation Awards 2026 is now accepting submissions. The awards recognise achievements in areas like AI integration, innovative learning tools, and workforce development. Winners will be announced on 14 January 2026 and featured in the first print edition of the *our website Awards 2026* magazine.

The opt-in camera policy at Minerva Virtual Academy has already shown positive results in classroom dynamics. For the ETIH Innovation Awards, the submission period offers a chance for global organisations to showcase their contributions to education technology. Both initiatives highlight ongoing efforts to improve learning experiences through innovation and adaptability.
