Biysk Kindergarten Opens Unique Eco-Station
Russia's First Preschool Eco-Station Teaches Kids Sustainability Through Play
Kindergarten No. 93 in Biysk has become the only preschool in Altai Krai to launch a full-scale eco-station for children as part of a federal project in autumn 2023, reports Katun 24.
The eco-station features a zoned space, including a dedicated classroom for theoretical lessons, a real radio studio, and a contact zoo. The petting corner is home to degus, rats, chinchillas, and other small animals.
"All the animals have undergone veterinary checks, are microchipped, and vaccinated. We also have a strong volunteer program—each class is assigned a specific pet, and the children, together with their teachers, observe and feed them," said Yekaterina Olenyeva, the kindergarten's director.
Parents of the children actively support the ecological initiatives, such as voting to name new zoo residents. The kindergarten's grounds also feature special eco-boxes for waste separation, which families from across the neighborhood use on a scheduled basis.
