The image shows a woman holding a baby in her arms, with a poster behind her that reads "Mother's Pensions: Over 20 States are Helping to Preserve the Home". The woman has a warm and loving expression on her face, and the baby is looking up at her with a contented smile. The poster is a reminder of the importance of preserving the home of mothers and their children.

From government consultant to global nomad: A career built online

A former government tech consultant has left corporate life behind to travel the world and build a career online. After years of remote work and personal upheaval, they now earn a living through social media, freelancing, and mentoring—all while documenting their journey across five continents. The transition began after university, where graduation in 2020 coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic. They soon took a remote role as a technology consultant for the US government, working from Miami for four years. But by 2023, a breakup led to a move back in with their parents in Northern Virginia.

For nearly a year, they balanced consulting with growing an online presence. Then, in August 2024, they quit their job for good. Within weeks, they set off to explore Bali, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America—sharing every step on Instagram and TikTok.

Now, their income comes entirely from social media, a podcast, freelance projects, and mentoring others. They briefly returned to their parents’ home in March but plan to relocate to Miami in the coming months, this time on their own terms. The shift from corporate work to full-time content creation has reshaped their life. With no plans to return to traditional employment, they now focus on expanding their digital projects and travels. Their next step is securing a place in Miami, marking another move toward independence.
