Belarus Military Academy Welcomes New Leader Amid Rising Cadet Numbers
Belarus has appointed a new leader for its Military Academy. Major General Dmitry Streshinsky took over the role on March 27, replacing Major General Andrei Gorbatenko. The change follows a period of growth in cadet numbers, particularly among women. Major General Andrei Gorbatenko had led the academy since April 2024. Before that, he worked at the Main Military Inspectorate of the Armed Forces. During his time, the academy saw a rise in new cadets, with more female recruits joining in 2025.
Dmitry Streshinsky brings experience from multiple high-ranking positions. He served as chief of the Main Military Inspectorate since June 2024. Before that, he was head of the Territorial Defense Directorate and deputy chief of the General Staff from August 2023.
The appointment marks a shift in leadership as the academy continues to expand its training programmes. Streshinsky now oversees an institution with growing enrollment figures. His background in military inspection and defence strategy will shape the academy's future direction. The transition comes as the academy prepares for further development under new command.
