Baden-Württemberg welcomes 450 new police officers after rigorous training

"No profession is as diverse as policing. That's why it's all the more important to prepare our young police officers thoroughly for the wide range of challenges they will face in their daily work," said State Secretary Thomas Blenke at the graduation ceremony for police cadets on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Villingen-Schwenningen exhibition center. "With the specialized degree programs in uniformed and criminal investigation policing at the Baden-Württemberg Police University, they are perfectly equipped. I extend my warmest congratulations to our newly promoted officers on completing their studies and wish them every success and fulfillment in their future roles. Each of them makes a vital contribution to safety and security in Baden-Württemberg."

Direct Entry into the Police Force

In 2022, more than 500 recruits began their practice-oriented degree programs as direct-entry officers with the Baden-Württemberg police. In these programs, students choose whether they will later serve in uniformed policing, criminal investigation, or criminal investigation IT. The curriculum is tailored to their future fields of work to ensure a smooth transition into their careers.

State Secretary Blenke also bid farewell to around 450 graduates from the experience-based degree program. Police officers with prior service in the intermediate rank can advance to the higher police service through this three-semester program, building on their professional experience.

Police Recruitment Drive

Since the launch of the recruitment initiative in 2016, over 14,000 young people have completed their training with the Baden-Württemberg state police. The campaign will continue in the coming years to offset retirements and further strengthen the police force.
