Daughter's Day – An Unofficial Holiday to Honor Daughters

April 25 unites family, penguins, and science in global celebrations

Daughter's Day is an unofficial holiday designed to express gratitude and love for daughters while highlighting the role of girls in families and society. In Russia, it has been observed since 2017 on April 25. As an unofficial celebration, traditions are still taking shape. Libraries, schools, and community centers host lectures, informational sessions, discussions, film screenings, and organize quizzes, quests, and themed book exhibitions exploring the roles of women and daughters in literature and history.

Today Is World Penguin Day

The date coincides with the peak of penguin migration to the continent, when these birds return to land to mate and incubate their eggs. Tracking their migration helps scientists monitor population health and assess the impact of climate change and human activity on penguin life.

By the way, the largest penguin species is the emperor penguin, standing up to 120 cm tall and weighing over 40 kg. The smallest is the little penguin, no taller than an adult's knee and weighing just 2.5 kg. Penguins can also dive to depths of several hundred meters and stay underwater for up to 20 minutes.

Biologist's Day – Celebrating the Science of Life

Biologist's Day is a professional holiday for scientists, educators, students, and everyone connected to the biological sciences. It originated in 1990 on the initiative of researchers and biology students at university faculties. Initially an informal event within academic circles, it has since gained broad recognition and become a traditional celebration for the entire biological community in the country.

The biological sciences encompass a wide range of specializations—botany, zoology, genetics, anatomy and physiology, ecology, and more—each playing a fundamental role. Biologist's Day is not just a professional holiday but an opportunity to underscore the importance of biological sciences in understanding the world and addressing humanity's global challenges, from combating disease to preserving nature.
