Youth researchers in Solingen have been astonishingly outdone by a group of children who have fashioned a "brainchild" of their own.

In the bustling Old Machine Hall of the Founder and Technology Center (GuT) in Solingen, 42 innovative project works were presented at this year's regional Jugend forscht competition. The event, which saw the participation of 21 students from the city, was a testament to the thriving spirit of curiosity and innovation among the youth.

The competition, spanning the fields of technology, working world, biology, physics, geo and space sciences, mathematics/informatics, and chemistry, was meticulously evaluated by 20 jury colleagues. The winners were honoured and awarded prizes by Mayor Tim Kurzbach and competition leader Sascha Bergfeld.

Frank Balkenhol, managing director of the Founder and Technology Center Solingen, expressed his delight at the high number of participants. He wished success to all participants who are eligible to advance to the state competition in Düsseldorf from March 19 to 21, 2024.

The regional competition was supported by several sponsors, including Egon Evertz GmbH & Co. KG, Autohaus Nouvertné, fourtexx GmbH, Nifco Germany GmbH, Stadt-Sparkasse Solingen, codecentric AG, FGW Remscheid, item Industrietechnik GmbH, and Solingen.Business.

Sascha Bergfeld, a teacher at the Humboldt Gymnasium Solingen, served as the competition leader. This year's competition saw an increase in the number of projects presented compared to last year, with over 40 projects this time.

The state competition is the next step towards the federal final of Jugend forscht, which is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 2 in Heilbronn. The winners from the state competition will have the opportunity to showcase their projects on a national stage, further fuelling their passion for innovation and research.

Frank Balkenhol and Mayor Tim Kurzbach took the time to congratulate and encourage all participants, expressing their pride in the city's youth and their commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and research. The regional Jugend forscht competition in Solingen serves as a beacon of hope for the future, demonstrating the potential of the city's youth in shaping the world of tomorrow.
