Youth from Ural attended military- patriotic events named "Zastava."
The "Zastava. Academy of Courage" is an educational program designed to cultivate patriotism, physical fitness, and military knowledge among children in the Sverdlovsk region of Russia. The program, which recently held its closing ceremony at the suburban camp "Zarya", is a unique initiative aimed at preparing youth for responsible citizenship and fostering national pride.
Purpose and Participants
The program's purpose is to instill a sense of duty, courage, and love for the homeland by engaging children in activities that simulate military training and teach historical and practical aspects of Russian military tradition. Among the participants were children of special operation veterans, students of special centers, and participants of patriotic clubs, ranging in age from 7 to 15 years old.
Activities and Learning Experiences
The program offers a diverse range of activities designed to challenge and educate the participants. These include physical training and sports, military drills and basics, historical education, field exercises and survival skills, and patriotic events.
Physical training and sports help build endurance, strength, and teamwork, while military drills and basics teach discipline and the use of basic military equipment in a controlled and safe manner. Historical education provides insight into the history of Russian armed forces and significant military events or figures related to the Sverdlovsk region and Russia.

Impact and Future Prospects
Regional Governor Denis Pasler emphasised the importance of preserving the historical truth about the Great Patriotic War, stressing the need for unity, cohesion, and patriotism. Denis Protasonov, Director of the Sverdlovsk region's Department of Youth Policy, stated that the program helps children overcome difficulties, discover new qualities, become stronger, more enduring, and independent.
The skills learned in the "Zastava. Academy of Courage" can sometimes save lives, as emphasised by the program's organisers. The program has already made a significant impact, with a total of 60 young residents from the Ural region completing a sports training program.
In the past, Sverdlovsk schoolchildren have also participated in the "Voina.Kino" project, which included military training, combat tactics lessons, rifle assembly and disassembly, and shooting. This program, too, was designed to teach discipline and provide invaluable teamwork experience that will be useful in the future.
