Youth firefighters from VdF-NRW launch a conservation effort to safeguard indigenous bird species
In the heart of Wuppertal, Germany, an innovative project is underway, aiming to engage young firefighters in nature conservation efforts. The Youth Fire Brigades of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) have partnered with the NRW Foundation and the workshops of Haus Hall to launch a species protection project for native birds.
The project offers three different building kits for nesting boxes, designed for active participation of young people in group projects. These kits, developed by the workshops of the Haus Hall Foundation in Gescher, allow young people to be directly involved in the project.
The high demand for these building kits showcases the great interest and commitment of the youth fire brigades towards nature conservation. The project's goal is to sensitize young firefighters to nature conservation and actively contribute to the preservation of the bird population.

Three youth fire brigades in NRW - Jugendfeuerwehr Wetter, Jugendfeuerwehr Isselburg, and Jugendfeuerwehr Meinerzhagen - are involved in the project. Gani Arouna Sidikou, the deputy state youth fire brigade leader of the youth fire brigade NRW, is also part of the initiative.
